Day 1 April 2026 PAD

It is the first day of the April 2026 Poem A Day challenge. I have been participating in this challenge hosted by writersdigest.com since 2024. Off and on over the years, I have used the regular Wednesdays poetry prompts at writersdigest.com to help me write poems.

The poetry prompt and instructions for Day 1 is to write a seed poem. Here’s the link to the original post:

Here are the instructions for participating in the challenge:

Unlike the back log of poems from the November 2025 PAD, I will not be turning these into graphics. I am posting them live as I participate in this challenge. For social media, I made a graphic to announce each day’s poem and will share the link there for my post here.

I hit a wall with this prompt. I read through some of the poems posted on the comments on the post from writersdigest.com. It helped to get my brain working.

I started thinking about verses in the Bible about how we were meant to be planted by streams of living water, to grow good fruit or character, and how we can choose in the darkest, most difficult times to plant seeds for good fruit in the future.

Here is a list of the verses I was thinking about:

Psalm 1

Isaiah 61:3

Psalm 126:6

In my faith journey over the last two years, these verses have reminded me to choose to faith and hope in Jesus. He doesn’t leave us ruined and destroyed because of sin. He redeems and restores us to be new creations.

Here’s my try at a seed poem.

“Seeds”

by Alissa Dedic, copyright 2026

Choices are like little seeds

planted in the soil of our souls

setting down roots, pushing up sprouts

each time we choose

faith and hope, doubt or fear.

We were meant to be planted

near streams of living water

not knowing drought or darkness,

famine or flood, weeping or withering,

sin or separation, grief or grave . . .

Plant your seeds as you weep,

if a harvest you wish to reap.
